The ebook was my first foray into self-publishing, released on 2nd October 2017, to celebrate the birthday of my leading man, Richard III. It was an interesting six months or so before that, getting the manuscript in order, choosing the cover-art, and tackling Amazon, and it’s been an even more interesting year since. Learning the ropes of self-publishing has been fascinating, and I’ve had support from some wonderful people.
And now I’m excited to be bringing The Last Plantagenet? to the new house of Ocelot Press.
In The Last Plantagenet?, we meet Kate, a modern, history-loving girl, who finds herself thrown back in time to 1485 during a thunderstorm at a historical re-enactment. Once in the historical Nottingham Castle, she finds herself dealing with the challenges of the medieval court, and wondering whether she’ll ever find her way back home again.
The skeleton of the story, in terms of the historical background, is based on where we know King Richard was in the final hundred days of his reign, so having that to work with made the process of plotting easier in a way, even though I somehow failed at counting the number of mornings days should have, with one key day having Kate wake up far too many times… Once that was sorted though, I really enjoyed working on the project, both in terms of the content and the format, the short novella, of ~20,000 words.
